There are many misconceptions in the estate jewelry industry as to what jewels are really worth. At the House of Kahn Estate Jewelers, we pride ourselves on giving you the highest price possible.
We encourage those interested in selling their jewels to be well informed. As such, we have included some frequently asked questions and answers to better guide you in selling your jewels.
Q: Why are people interested in coming to your establishment to sell their jewels?
A: In these times of an uncertain economic future, people are beginning to realize that their old jewelry can be turned into liquid assets. Lifestyles have changed and many people are selling family heirlooms to take advantage of other investment opportunities. People are also cashing in their jewelry to pay for many different expenses such as mortgages, education, long-term care, or unexpected events.
Q: Does my jewelry have to be old for it to be valuable?
A: No. It does not have to be old for it to be valuable. The House of Kahn Estate Jewelers purchases jewels from a variety of eras. Modern jewels can also yield a very high price.
Q: Is there a charge to make an appointment to sell your jewelry?
A: No. We will be happy to meet with you to discuss your selling options.
Q: Will I be paid for my jewelry the same day that I bring it in?
A: The House of Kahn Estate Jewelers will evaluate your jewelry immediately. After communicating with our international buying network, we will make you the highest possible offer.
Q: Do you accept jewelry on consignment?
A: Yes. If it is an especially unusual item, we might suggest that you leave it on consignment to guarantee the highest cash price for your jewelry.
Q: What about an auction house? Is this a good place to unload my heirlooms?
A: No. In an auction house, you may have to wait three to six months or longer to be paid. In addition, the commission rate drastically reduces the amount you will actually receive. Unfortunately, you may invest a great deal of time and effort, and ultimately be disappointed when the jewelry is not sold and is returned to you many months later.
Q: Is it common for people to bring in jewelry that turns out to be worth a fortune?
A: Yes. Sometimes, clients bring in jewelry and are pleasantly surprised when we detect very fine stones in old mountings. One customer brought in what she thought was a costume jewelry ring and it ended up being a very fine diamond worth a great deal of money.
Q. Can I bring one piece to sell?
A: Yes. We accept single pieces to large estates. It is best that you call ahead to our Chicago or Palm Beach headquarters to arrange a mutually convenient time.
Q: Does the House of Kahn Estate Jewelers only purchase jewelry?
A: No. We also purchase sterling silver flatware, tea sets, porcelain and any unique works of art. We try to detect any special hallmarks to give you the best possible cash price.
Q: Are appraisals for jewels considered cash offer?
A: No. Appraisals are written for insurance purposes and should not be considered a guaranteed cash offer.
